CHARITY AUCTIONS
Art as a Form of Support
Participating in charity auctions is a distinct part of my artistic practice. I take part primarily as an artist, contributing my work to a shared cause.
The charity auctions organised by the Friends of the Lviv National Academy of Arts Foundation hold a special place among these initiatives. Their purpose is directly connected to the Academy community: supporting students, departments, and the Academy itself, and responding to specific, urgent needs.
At the same time, I see a charity auction as much more than a way to raise funds. It is an art project that brings together the artist, the work, an institution, a patron, and the work’s future owner.
For the Academy, these events offer a way to present the work of its artistic community beyond the usual exhibition space. For artists, they create an opportunity to connect directly with people who care about art and are willing to support its development. For patrons, acquiring a work carries a dual meaning: they gain a work of art while contributing to a specific charitable initiative.
What resonates with me is art’s ability to create these connections. A work leaves the studio and passes into someone else’s hands, and in doing so, it also helps another person: a student, a department, or an educational or artistic initiative.
I do not see charity auctions as separate from my creative practice. On the contrary, they make one of the reasons for creating art especially clear.
Ultimately, we create art for people. It matters to me when a work not only finds a viewer or an owner, but also becomes a tangible way to support others.
