Evening continues The Day After Tomorrow series — a collection of landscapes and reflections united by the act of looking towards the sky and an attempt to sense the future through the changing states of the present.

The calm evening sky, the sun above the horizon, and the barely visible trail of an aircraft come together in an almost timeless image. The sky remains much as humanity has observed it for thousands of years. Yet a single subtle sign of modernity changes our perception of this stillness.

What might otherwise remain an ordinary detail of the landscape can, in today's reality, evoke a sense of anxiety. Yet the painting does not establish whether any threat actually exists. The boundary between calm and anxiety emerges within the viewer's own consciousness — through memory, experience, and anticipation of what may happen.

Evening leaves the viewer facing an open horizon, where anxiety coexists with silence, and uncertainty with the possibility of once again forming hopes and plans for the future.
