After an event, memory begins to piece it back together. Discrete fragments, colors, gestures, and directions form new connections, as if consciousness were attempting to reconstruct the sequence of what occurred. Yet this reconstruction never restores the original picture; instead, it creates a different one—composed of experience, time, and memory.
